Miss Bicolandia 2003 search is on
The search is on for the region’s most beautiful maiden.
Total cash prizes amounting to P212,000 plus specially-designed trophies will be given away to winners in this year’s search for Miss Bicolandia.
These do not include the non-cash incentives and the P32,000 more to be awarded to talent scouts of winning top three title holders.
The winning Miss Bicolandia 2003 alone will receive P100,000 in cash prize, up by P25,000 from last year’s P75,000.
But the contest is not all about money, explained 2003 Peñafrancia Fiesta Executive Council Chairperson, City Councilor Lourdes V. Asence.
She said that the winning Miss Bicolandia will have the rare chance to represent Bicol as its ambassador of goodwill and shall be given appropriate assistance if she joins a major national beauty contest.
Now on its 30th year, the annual search for Miss Bicolandia is the longest running beauty pageant in Bicol, and the most prestigious one.
While prizes are a lot bigger this time, the biggest in fact in Bicol, no single centavo will be spent by the city government, Jun Mongoso of the finance committee said.
Moreover, the city government is assured of a goodwill money amounting to P1.5 million from a private promotions outfit that will be granted exclusive right to market and promote this year’s Peñafrancia festivities under a memorandum of agreement that will insure a successful and well-organized holding of the two-week fiesta celebration.
City Councilor Asence said the regionwide search for the most beautiful and brainy Bicolana has already kicked off with the solicitation of support from all LGUs in Bicol and private talent scouts.
A candidate must meet the following minimum criteria: a) at least 16 years of age but not more than 23; at least 5’3” in height (barefoot); single, and has never been a mother; Bicolana by birth or by blood and resident of any place in Bicol for at least 4 years; can communicate in any of the Bicol language and dialect; and of good health.
Deadline for submission of application and requirements is at 12:00 noon of August 22, 2003.
Final selection and pageant night will be on September 17. Application forms may be obtained at the Naga City Beauty pageant Council Secretariat at MetroPESO, DOLE Bldg., City Hall Complex, Naga City, with Tel. No. (054) 4738274 or (054) 8118231, or at respective Bicol LGU.
