Ibalon beauty title holder dies in road mishap in Naga

NAGA CITY - A Mutya ng Ibalon (beauty queen) 2004 in Legaspi City died in a motorcycle accident early yeasterday morning in Barangay San Felipe here.

A police report identified the victim as Moira Anna Bautista Yarr, 18, first year nursing student at the Ateneo de Naga University (ADENU). She suffered a fractured skull and died at the Mother Seton Hospital here.

Dodge Raneses, a member of the city tourism council in Albay, said Miss Yarr was scheduled to turn over the Mutya ng Ibalon crown in October 2005 to her successor.

City Councilor Nene de Asis, chairperson of the committee on screening for the Miss Bicolandia beauty pageant 2005, said that Miss Yarr participated in the selection round. She was official candidate No. 20 and the choice of almost everybody during the selection process at the civic center here.

Yarr is a daughter of a Finnish national. Her mother is a Filipina and native of Naga City.

The family resides at San Francisco Village, Barangay Pacol, this city.

Many of her classmates and friends in school said they will be missing her.

They said that Yarr was too young to die, observing that she was intelligent and friendly.

She was a combination of beauty nd brains, one classmate said. She is down to earth, "at tipong kalog" despite her goods looks, she added.

Police said that Yarr was riding a motorcycle driven by Fernan Gutierrez, 17, of Abella, Naga City at about 3 a.m. on her way home in Pacol from a downtown nightclub when the motorcycle crashed.
