Colorful Grand Parade caps week-long Kaogma Festival

A colorful grand parade highlighted by street dancers in resplendent costumes and floats gaudily brought to a climax the weeklong celebration of the 427th Foundation Anniversary of the province of Camarines Sur last Saturday, May 27.

As always in his ebullient self, Governor Lray Villafuerte aboard a huge float led the grand parade that kicked off at exactly 2:00 pm from the Freedom Sports Complex at San Jose to the provincial capitol complex. As his float traverses the highway en route to the vast capitol grounds, the Governor was seen to constantly wave to the enthusiastic crowd that converged and lined the side streets and promenades.

Aboard the Governor's colorful float was Vice Governor Sal Fortuno, the beauty pageant winners led by newly crowned Miss Kaogma, 19-year old Amanda L. Powell of Legaspi City and the Hot Kids Star Quest winners.

The Kaogma Festival has become bigger and better every year. This year, the activities and the competitions have not only been limited to the provincial level but have become national in scope, the youthful governor disclosed. He envisions the Kaogma Festival to be the festival for the Bicol region more popular than the other festivals in the country nowadays.

In the competitions during the grand parade, the municipality of Nabua scored a sweep by winning the top prizes in both the street dancing and float contests. The other major winners in the street dancing competitions are Minalabac, second prize and Tigaon, third prize.

Earlier in the morning, Governor Villafuerte led provincial officials and employees in a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Msgr. Zosimo Ma. Saado concelebrated with other parish priests from the nearby parishes under the Archdiocese of Caceres. Said thanksgiving mass was in celebration of the 427th foundation year of the province of Camarines Sur.

In the evening, a 12-hour musical extravaganza aptly dubbed Kaogma Music Festival soon followed. Performing on stage to provide all-night entertainment ala Woodstock were 10 well-known bands in the country today like Brownman Revival, Chico Sci, Cynthia Alexander, Session Road, Imago, Sandwich, The Dawn, Pedicab, Radioactive Sago Project, and Orange and Lemons.

It was later reported that the music fest partied on 'till the early dawn of May 28 with the youthful crowd going home sleepy yet ultra satisfied.
