Search on for Miss Bicolandia beauty pageant

NAGA CITY – The search for Miss Bicolandia 2007 is on.

Naga City Beauty Pageant Council Chairperson and City Councilor Bernadette F. Roco during the meeting held last Tuesday (July 17) at the Sanggunian session hall here with various committee chairmen said this year’s beauty pageant which is the most prestigious in Bicol carries the theme, “Promoting Bikol Culture in Harmony with Nature” to highlight the Bicolanos’ renewed advocacy for cultural development and environment protection.

Already, a special committee for recruitment supported by the Ladies in Green Foundation and local talent scouts have been tasked to drum up calls for prospective applicant candidates from the region’s six provinces and 7 cities, including municipalities.

The search for the most beautiful and articulate Bicolana as an epitome of grace and talent who will give a human face to the promotion of Bicol cultural heritage and love for the environment virtually becomes a regionwide effort when local government units eagerly come out to endorse their respective candidates.

Candidates must be at least 17 but not more than 23 years of age on the date of proclamation night; at least 5’4” in height; single and has never been a mother; Bicolana by birth or by blood; at least 4th year high school; and of good health.

Cash prizes amounting to over P300,000, including special prizes, await the winners and talent scouts of winning candidates.

Screening and selection of official 20 candidates will be held on August 25 while pageant night will be held on September 13 at the UNC sports palace.

Already, organizers are thinking about inviting Bicolana Pinoy Big Brother winner Bea Imperial Saw and another popular male actor or singer to be among the hosts or celebrities during the pageant night.

Roco said candidates will be encouraged to pay attention to the overall theme and reflect Bikol culture and environmental protection during presentations and in gowns that they will wear.

Meanwhile, it was also announced that bidding for interested private production outfits to choreograph and stage manage the event will be held on Friday, July 27, at the Metro Peso conference room.
